PLL will be holding their first annual safety clinic. This year the clinic will feature keynote speaker Dr. Shane Caswell.
SHANE CASWELL is a professor of athletic training and founding executive director of the Sports Medicine Assessment, Research & Testing (SMART) Laboratory at George Mason University where he and his colleagues conduct research to prevent injury and optimize human performance. Caswell’s research focuses on the development of evidence-based interventions to improve the prevention, recognition, and management of concussion and other injuries among youth and scholastic athletes. Dr. Caswell's outreach efforts have led to improvements in safety education, injury prevention, and health care for youth and scholastic athletes in Virginia. He leads the Virginia Concussion Initiative which aims to assist schools with implementing best-practices for concussion. Additionally, he initiated and leads the Middle School ACHIEVES Project (AdvanCing Healthcare Initiatives for undErserVEd Students), which strives to assist public school systems to provide free access to onsite sport health care and improve sport safety through education, injury surveillance, and evidence-based interventions. In addition, Caswell is an active member of the Sports Science and Safety Committee for US Lacrosse.
We will also feature a speaker from Pivot Physical Therapy.
This event is highly recommended for all coaches and is open to any parents that would like to attend. The event will begin at 9:00am with sign-in opening at 8:30am.
At 1:00pm there will be a certification program for sports 1st aid and CPR offered to coaches and managers. One member of each coaching staff MUST BE certified in 1st aid and CPR.
